My Story
lazy right eye, classroom embarrassment, esteem crushing teachers to incredible mentors
Welcome to my world of storytelling, where imagination meets inspiration. I'm Carla Pahl, an author passionate about crafting tales that captivate and connect. My journey into writing wasn't straightforward. As a child with a "lazy right eye," my world was often a blur, forcing me to rely heavily on my mind's eye. This challenge became a gift, as it nurtured a vivid imagination every time a story was read to me. Books like "The Magic Faraway Tree" and "The Adventures of the Wishing Chair" by Enid Blyton inspired incredible mindscapes, despite the pages being a mere blur of colours.
Writing was my passion, but my early attempts were marred by poor spelling and grammar. I still chuckle at the memory of my "modern fairy tail" essay, which my English teacher used as a class example, much to my embarrassment. Her words were a blow to my confidence, but thankfully, another teacher reignited my love for literature. His passionate teaching of "Romeo and Juliet," complete with dramatic desk-jumping, showed me the power of words and storytelling.
Years later, during the pandemic lockdown, I penned "Petals, Mud, and Dandelion Tuft" in an afternoon. Encouraged by my mentor, Sara Montrose, I found the courage to publish and share my stories with the world. Today, I write not only fiction but also insightful non-fiction parenting books, driven by a belief in the transformative power of stories.
Thank you for joining me on this literary journey. I hope my stories inspire your imagination and bring you joy.
